The WV Thunder 11u team
finished 5th the 2008 AAU Nationals. They had a terrific run
and played 9 games in 6 days putting up a 7-2 record and
finishing the season with a 47-4 record. The Thunder went
3-0 in pool play and then 5-2 in the championship round. In the
last day of competition in game one The Thunder defeated the
Georgia Pistols as Jenna Burdette scored 20 points
and Shawntell Parsons added 12 points. In the
final game of the Tournament the Thunder lost to an excellent
Indiana Finest team. Jenna Burdette led the team
with 26 points and Mychal Johnson added and 11
points and pulled down 11 boards.

Boo Williams 6th Grade Based
NIC AAU Nationals
Hampton Virginia
June 21, 2008
The WV Thunder 6th grade AAU teams went 6-0 and captured
the Gold medal in the Boo Williams AAU NIC Nationals held June
19-21, 2008 at the NEW Boo Williams Sportsplex Facility in
Hampton Virginia. All ten players scored in five of the six
ballgames. In the semi-finals the Thunder defeated Boo
Williams Red Tide 64-39. Jenna Burdette tossed in 15
pts, Mychal Johnson 12 and Krista Maynard
10. Mychal Johnson also had 10 bds and 8 steals in
the win.
In the Championship Game the Thunder defeated East Bay Explosion
59-51. Jenna Burdette had a fantastic second half as she put
up 25 of her game high 27 points in the second half after sitting
out 12 minutes of the first half with foul trouble. Mychal
Johnson came up big in the first half as she scored 8 of her 12
points. She also had 8 steals in the game.

GBA Loveland Classic

The WV Thunder 11u team captured the 12u championship in the GBA
Loveland Classic held on June 7-8. The Thunder went 4-0 in the
competition running their 2008 record to 34-2. They are undefeated
in their age group this year. In the championship game Mychal
Johnson scored 16 points and Jenna Burdette
added 12 as they beat Cincinnati's Finest 37-19.

Greater Cincinnati Classic

The
WV Thunder 11u Girls Basketball Team won the 12u Division of the
Greater Cincinnati Classic held May 16-18. The Thunder went 5-0 in
the event and captured the championship game 33-31 over the Central
Kentucky Angels as Jenna Burdette hit 7 out of 9 shots
on 2's and also was 3-4 from the 3-point line as she scored 25
points in the win.

Super Regionals 12U Division

The
WV Thunder 11u team captured the 12u division in the Cincinnati
Super Regional May 9-11, 2008. In the championship game the Thunder
defeated the Cincy Legends, a team that had beaten them in pool play
by a score of 51-37. In the championship game Mychal
Johnson pulled down 17 boards and scored 12 points. Jenna
Burdette led the team in scoring with 20 pts.

High School May 2-4, 2008. In the championship game we had four
girls in double figures as Mychal Johnson scored 17, Jenna
Burdette 13, Brooke Borich 12 and Griffin
Dempsey 12 as Griffin hit four 3-point shots. Mychal
pulled down 19 boards and collected 6 steals in the victory.

WV Thunder 11u Girls AAU Basketball Team went 6-0 this past weekend
and captured first place in the Dayton Hoopstars Super Regional. In
the championship game Jenna
Burdette led the team with 12 points, 9 boards,
and 7 assists.
Mychal

scored 11 points and pulled down 10 boards.
Griffin
Dempsey and Krista Maynard scored 8
points each. With the win the Thunder qualified for the AAU
Nationals in Branson, Missouri this coming summer.

12u Age Division
The
WV Thunder 11u went 6-0 and captured the championship in the
Pickerington Classic. In the semi finals it took overtime to defeat
the Hilliard Vipers 49-44 as Jenna Burdette tossed in
15 pts and Griffin Dempsey 13 pts. In the championship game
Mychal Johnson scored 17 pts and Jenna Burdette dished out 7
assists as the Thunder defeated the Ohio Express 46-40

The 2007 season is now
history. Looking back over the season there were many highs
and lows. The 11u team came up short of our goal in New
Orleans. We were one win away from the Sweet Sixteen which
is our goal at the beginning of each season. In pool
play we finished #2 in the pool and advanced to the
championship game with an exciting overtime win over Atlanta
Select. The overtime games continued as the team pulled out
a one point victory in overtime vs. the North Carolina
Stars. The Thunder lost the next two games and were
eliminated from the event. In the final game Vs the Kansas
City Hoop Stars it was 36-29 as Jenna Burdette
tossed in 12 points. It is now back to the drawing board as
we begin to make plans for the 2008 season that will
conclude in Rochester, Minnesota in July of 2008.
