(return to top) The WV Thunder finished 5th in the nation in the Girls AAU National Championship as they went 5-1 in the tournament. To advance to the final eight they defeated the Alabama Twisters 70-56. The Thunder placed four girls in double figures as Chelsea Caldwell had 16 points and 11 boards and Whitney Bays had 14 points and 12 boards. Karissa Adkins added 10 points and Kayla Cook 13. They lost in the game that would have advanced them to the final four to the Maryland Flames 74-71. Erin Bailes led the team in scoring with 24 points. Whitney Bays added 20 points. Their next event will be the Summer Derby Classic July 22-24 in Louisville, Kentucky. Game One

(return to top) The WV Thunder 15u Girls AAU Basketball Team won their sixth straight state district title defeating the WV Tornadoes 79-62 in the championship game. Whitney Bays tossed in 17 points, grabbed 11 boards and had 6 blocks in the win. The Thunder had balanced scoring as 5 girls were in double figures. Kayla Cook had 15 pts, Erin Bailes 13, Tori Dixon and Karissa Adkins added 10 each. Saturday Game One

Thunder defeated the WV Bullets by a score of 86-37 as Karissa
Adkins scored 22 points and Kayla Cook added 19
pts. Whitney Bays tossed in 14 more. Saturday Game Two

Thunder defeated the WV Tornadoes 77-53 as Kayla Cook
scored 24 points, Karissa Adkins added 14, Whitney
Bays 13 and Brooke Keeton scored 10 pts and had

the finals it was the WV Thunder 79 the WV Tornadoes 62 as Whitney
Bays scored 17 pts, grabbed 11 boards, and blocked 6 shots.

(return to top) The WV Thunder 15u finished with a 2-2 record in the Cincy Super Regional as they lost in the semi-finals of the event to the Indiana Legends. In the Legend game three girls put up big numbers but it wasn't enough. Erin Bailes led the team with 24 points, Kayla Cook and Rebecca Puckett scored 19 points each.

The WV Thunder 15u Girls Basketball Team finished 6th in the 2008 16u Select Division of the Deep South Classic April 18, 19, 20, 2008 held at the campuses of NCS, UNC, and Duke University. The Thunder went 4-2 in the tournament.

Pool Play The WV Thunder went 3-0 in pool play and advance to the championship round as the #1 seed out of their pool. The Thunder won game one 78-69 Vs Indiana Central Elite as Kayla Cook tossed in 26 points & dished out 5 assists. Chelsea Caldwell pulled down 8 boards. Game two was Thunder 78-57 over the Columbus Lady Flames as Erin Bailes scored 19 points and Whitney Bays had a double-double with 16 pts and 10 boards. The final pool game was WV 72 Ohio Elite 37 as Rachel Lambert led the way with 14 points. Chelsea Caldwell scored 13 points and pulled down a game high 8 boards.

Thunder finished with a record of 5-2 in
the 14U AAU Nationals and placed 17th in the nation.
Four of the team members averaged double figures for the event.

Kayla Cook 12.4 and Karissa Adkins 10.6. The WV Thunder
was eliminated from the 14U Championship round Thursday as
they lost to the HMC Select from the Missouri Valley
District by a score of 98-86. The Thunder put up 57 points
in the second half but unfortunately the Select scored 67
points as they pulled away late in the game.
Karissa Adkins, Oak Hill led the team with 21 points.
Erin Bailes, HHS had 20 points. Whitney Bays,
HHS added 14 points and Kayla Cook, South
Webster scored 13 points.
